Our first task in Production Skills was to make a scene/set from a movie or play. This was a task to show how you come across you're set design ideas.
I had chosen to do the scene of Tangled where Flynn Rider first sees the tower in the forest:
What materials did you use?
-Foam card for the grass and rocks/mountain.
-Wooden sticks used for the tower.
-Wood for the base of the tower and top of it.
-Cardboard used to make the character.
-Fake grass used on the rocks/mountains.
-Paint which was used on the rocks/mountains and for the grass.
What improvements would you make to you're model?
-To finish the tower with more detail e.g. the window.
-Add more detail on the rocks e.g.
-Add the waterfall to the background to make it more realistic.
-Add bushes to make it look more like a forest.
How did you find model making as a process?
I found model making quite difficult as I have never done anything like this before, it was also hard to figure out what materials to use to show what i wanted because I didn't know what would be best to use. This was a hard challenge but I enjoyed the process during the making of it.
What have you learn't?
From the model making process, I have learn't that planning is very important because then you know exactly what you are doing. I didn't do much of a plan for my model and so my model wasn't made exactly how I wanted it to turn out as.
Do you think it is an effective way to communicate a set design idea?
Yes, because it is an effective way of bringing your set idea to life. With this, you would be able to put detail into it and then see what you need to improve on within the design.
